The £200 million Ascot Racecourse redevelopment programme comprising of a unique grandstand, parade ring and refurbished listed buildings has reaffirmed Ascot’s reputation as being one of the world’s greatest racecourses.

Ascot Manhole Cover

The redevelopment programme was completed within 18 months from the demolition work beginning in September 2004 to its completion in time, ready for Royal Ascot in June 2006.

The racecourse has been realigned to allow the re-siting of the new grandstand by approximately 20mtrs. This allowed for the construction of the new parade ring and improved crowd circulation routes on the front elevation facing Ascot High Street. The new seven storey grandstand is approximately half a mile long, and is dominated by a vast atrium running along its length in the centre of the building.

Manhole Covers Limited was approached early in 2005 to design and produce a casting particularly displaying the Ascot logo. The client (Ascot Racecourse) approved the design on first submission and examples can be seen all over the pedestrian area, access roads and car parks of Ascot Racecourse. Also supplied was almost 100mtrs of specialist steel duct to cover electrical systems between the saddling enclosures and the grandstand areas.

As a company staffed with racing enthusiasts, but also an owner of racehorses in its own right (our horses have their own MHC Ltd company colours) we were particularly pleased to secure this high profile contract and hope to have a runner at the redeveloped Ascot Racecourse in the very near future.
